The extension of prana, the life force, through the breath: the bridge between the body and the mind.

पूर्णिमा the full moon

Breathe with the moon

Purnima means the night of the full moon. Let the moon set the pace of a calm breath: it fills as you breathe in, rests full while you hold, and softens as you breathe out, a little longer than the inhale.

Inhale 4

Breathe in slowly. The moon fills with light.

Mudra

The seals of the hands

A mudra is a seal: a gesture of the hands that gathers and directs the attention. Three that open and close her classes.

  1. ज्ञान मुद्रा

    Jnana Mudra

    The seal of knowledge

The tip of the index finger meets the tip of the thumb; the other three fingers stay straight and relaxed.

Held in meditation and pranayama to steady attention and gather the mind.

  2. ध्यान मुद्रा

    Dhyana Mudra

    The seal of meditation

The hands rest in the lap, palms up, one hand over the other, the tips of the thumbs touching.

The gesture of deep, settled meditation: balanced, open and still.

  3. अञ्जलि मुद्रा

    Anjali Mudra

    The seal of offering

The palms press together at the heart, fingers pointing up, the head bowing a little.

A gesture of greeting and reverence that gathers the practice at its start and its end.
